There are so many interpretations of the word meditation — from Transcendental Meditation to
Yoga to Osho Dynamic methods.
How do you define it?

Nitamo conducting experiments at Global Village

Nitamo: The confusion happens because in western countries meditation means to think deeply about something, “to meditate on something.” Most techniques known in the West are methods of focussing the mind — on sound (making or listening to), on a point in the body — the heart, the navel or the third eye, for example — or on an image like a mandala or a spiritual guide.

I define meditation as awareness with no thought — a state of no-mind.

It’s really only when you move beyond the technique, beyond any doing, however subtle — even like simply being aware of the breath — that you can experience meditation.

You can use the mind to go beyond the mind but many people settle for just a pleasant, soothing state of relaxation, without realizing that they are still just on the “porch of consciousness.”
